Perseid meteor shower
In 2026 the Perseid meteor shower is active between 17 July and 24 August, with the number of meteors increasing every night until it reaches a peak in mid-August, after which it will tail off. This year the peak falls on the night of 14 August.
Watching a meteor shower from the beach offers a wide, open horizon. The premier summer display, the Perseid meteor shower, peaks in mid-August with up to 50–100 meteors per hour under dark skies.
Timing: Go out between midnight and dawn, when the-sky faces directly into the path of Earth's orbit.
Eye Adjustment: Turn off flashlights and phone screens, and allow 20 to 30 minutes for your eyes to fully adjust to the dark.
Gear: Leave telescopes and binoculars at home; they narrow your field of vision. Bring a reclining lawn chair or a thick blanket to lie flat on the sand.
Weather Prep: Coastal nights get cold and damp quickly. Dress in warm layers and windbreakers, even during August.

2026 Seaside Beach Discovery Program

For 31 years, the Seaside Beach Discovery Program has invited summer visitors to learn and talk about the natural world they have come to explore.
This is a free program on the beach in front of the Seaside Aquarium. Young and old alike are delighted with the personal attention, hands-on displays, old photos, and great discussions that occur.
Seaside Aquarium staff members use several interactive displays, including microscopes, which showcase diverse creatures such as plant and animal plankton, amphipods and seaweed. We have many historical photos to help people compare human and geological changes over time. We add shells and other tideline discoveries to reinforce the idea that an ever-changing ocean can lead to important changes for people, plants, and animals. One popular display, in the form of a signpost, points out that people are not our only visitors. Numerous flying or swimming animals make enormous round-trip journeys every year and many use our beach as a pit stop to rest and feed. We use instruments such as tide tables, wind gauges, thermometers, and salinity gauges to compare daily, and sometimes hourly, changes to a seemingly static beach. These lead to displays about beach safety, verbal talks about gravity, the moon and tides, sand movement, upwellings, rip currents, and the food chain. All of this helps to spark discussions that lead to helping people see the interconnectivity of sand, water, air, plants and animals, the earth, the moon, and humans’ relationships to that process.
The Seaside Beach Discovery Program began in 1995 to engage the public about life on an open sandy beach. The idea was to try to change people’s perspective from being a beach they use to recreate on to a thriving beach ecosystem.

Seaside History Walking Tour

Join the Seaside Museum for their NEW program, Walking Tour with a Local. Guests will enjoy an easy, 1-hour, walking tour through downtown Seaside focused on the history of the area. Tickets are $10 each and each ticket holder will receive a $5.00 certificate to the Seaside Museum Store.

Every Tuesday through summer – while supplies last – the first five groups of visitors who post a fun Seaside photo or video on social media and then stop by the Welcome Center will receive a free limited-edition Seaside beach towel. Photos and videos can feature anything from sunset selfies to rainy-day discoveries. We want to showcase the wide variety of ways visitors enjoy their time in Seaside!
The Seaside Farmers Market

The Seaside Farmers Market is located in the Sunset Recreation Center parking lot along Highway 101 near Broadway and the Seaside Welcome Center.
The food court is open 12pm – 6 pm and the main market features locally-grown produce, meats, eggs, and cheeses as well as a variety of other locally-produced goods is open 1pm – 6pm.

The Seaside Public Library will welcome Ashland based author S.K. DeMarinis for a talk on their historical fiction book. This event will take place at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room and there will be a time afterwards for a Q&A and to purchase a copy of the book. This event is made possible by the generous support of the Seaside Library Friends & Foundation.
“The Station Master’s Wife” is a historical fiction novel set from the 1860s through the 1920s as the Transcontinental Railroad brought scandals with it as it moved West. Set in a small isolated Southern Oregon town, the SFO Bay area and the Oregon Coast, the book follows Alice, a daughter of a prominent pioneer family, as she goes through changes and events never expected and meets a variety of unsavory characters who come through on the rails.
Author S. K. DeMarinis, a retired chiropractor after 30 years of practice, took up writing novels to broaden her passion for storytelling.

Buoy 10 Salmon Fishing
Buoy 10 salmon fishing is a premier Pacific Northwest fishery located at the mouth of the Columbia River near Astoria, Oregon, featuring peak action for Chinook and Coho salmon from August through September.
Season and Limits
Season Opens: August 1st annually.
Daily Bag Limit: 2 salmon total, with only 1 Chinook allowed.
Hatchery Restrictions: Coho must be fin-clipped (adipose fin missing); specific dates require hatchery-only or allow any Chinook.
Licenses: Required state fishing license, salmon tag, and Columbia River Basin Endorsement (CRBE).
Fishing Tactics and Gear
Trolling Setup: 9- to 10-foot rod, line-counter reel, 50-pound braided line, and 16 to 24 ounces of lead weight.
